Diners won’t be going aboard King’s Wharf restaurant after Saturday, Dec. 17, as the longtime Chicago-area mainstay will helm its final voyage that day. However, regulars, local residents and nautical enthusiasts will have an opportunity to take home some King’s Wharf memories at a charity auction of its signature décor elements.
Located at the Chicago Marriott Lincolnshire Resort and managed by The Bricton Group, the restaurant will be shuttered to make way for a $25-million renovation designed to renew nearly every aspect of the resort. The auction will be held on Sunday, December 18, starting at 2 p.m., with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital.
“For more than 40 years, King’s Wharf has served Chicago’s North Shore the finest cuts of Midwest-sourced meat and seasonal seafood,” said Eric Bates, general manager of the Chicago Marriott Lincolnshire Resort. “Our hearts are filled with fond memories as we say goodbye to one of the area’s most beloved restaurant destinations. However, we are excited to renovate and introduce two new lakefront dining concepts to the area.”
Lead by local personality, David Haas, the silent auction will feature a wide range of artifacts, including:
- Oars, Oil Lamps and Brass Lamps
- Wooden Ship Wheels and Buoys
- Stained Glass Windows and Glass Port Hole
- Painted Pictures and Wooden Signs
- Barrels and Lobster Crates
- Rope Ladders and an Anchor
Bidding will close at 4 p.m. All auction items will be sold as-is, with opening bids starting at $10. Items must be picked-up the same day, however, larger items that require additional vehicles to transport, may be picked up on Monday, Dec. 19 and Tuesday, Dec. 20.
“It’s been an honor getting to know so many Wharf guests and learning of their multi-decade memories,” said Pierre Daval, Executive Chef of Chicago Marriott Lincolnshire Resort. “King’s Wharf holds a culinary legacy in the community that won’t soon be forgotten. We look forward to creating new memories with guests through our two new exciting lakefront dining concepts, which will be constructed in the same space.”
Reservations at King’s Wharf are being taken from now through December 17. In addition, those planning to attend the auction are encouraged to RSVP via chicagomarriottlincolnshire.com or by calling 847.634.0100, extension 5924.
