Hospitality Uncorked

Southern California’s hospitality industry elite, L.A. foodies, and members of the Cal Poly Pomona community will gather on Friday, Feb. 28, at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE for Hospitality Uncorked to honor the Porto family of Porto’s Bakery & Café while raising money to support future industry leaders.

The gala raises over half a million dollars for The Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona each year. Proceeds open doors for students by providing opportunities for professional development and assisting with the ever-rising costs of education.

The Porto family will be presented with the Robert Mondavi Wine & Food Award for the impact Porto’s Bakery & Café has made on the industry as an iconic California treasure. Beloved by millions, the Cuban hotspot has grown steadily from humble beginnings to a multi-million-dollar business with five locations serving the same authentic family recipes the family grew up with more than 50 years ago in Cuba.

The Robert Mondavi Wine & Food Award has paid tribute to some of the hospitality industry’s most accomplished men and women, beginning with its first honoree in 1999, in whose name the award was created. Past recipients include Julia Child, Alice Waters, Gina Gallo, Jean Charles Boisset, and Gary Eberle to name a few.

With a nod to the Portos’ invaluable imprint on California’s hospitality industry, Hospitality Uncorked 2020: LA Picture This… will make a statement about the nostalgia of the city and the entrepreneurial spirit the city brings to passersby and those who call it home. Hundreds of guests will enjoy a full evening of live entertainment, gourmet food, tempting libations, endless wine, a dance after party and more.

Hospitality Uncorked is organized by members of The Collins College of Hospitality Management’s esteemed Board of Advisors with the college’s dean and support staff. Tickets are $500 and are available online in addition to various sponsorship opportunities.  Click here to learn more.
